What we see in Canmore homes
Two things about Canmore change the job. The first is the aesthetic: mountain-style interiors run to wide-plank engineered hardwood, character-grade material, and visible timber, and the entire look depends on nothing in the room reading as generic. A stamped metal register in the middle of a wide-plank floor is exactly the wrong note. The second is how hard Canmore floors get used. A very large share of the housing stock spends part of the year as tourist accommodation, and a stairway in a property that turns over every few nights takes years of wear compressed into months. Stair nosing takes the brunt of that. Canmore is the furthest of our regular service areas — about an hour east on the Trans-Canada to our shop at 262 Poplar Hill Drive, which sits on the Canmore side of Calgary. Everything is dropped off and collected at the shop; we don't deliver out to the valley. Because of the distance, plan a Canmore job as one trip in with the material and one trip back for the finished pieces, and get the full list together before the first one. We manage a rental property. Can you match flooring installed years ago?
If there are offcuts in the storage locker or the mechanical room, yes — and in rental properties there very often are. It's worth a look before you assume otherwise.
Can you match character-grade or reclaimed wide plank?
Yes, and it's the material that makes the strongest case for custom. Character-grade flooring is defined by variation, which is precisely what a manufactured accessory can't reproduce.
Is Canmore too far to be worth it?
Not at all — we serve Canmore and the Bow Valley regularly. Our shop is in northwest Calgary, the closest edge of the city to the valley, so it's about an hour on the Trans-Canada. It is two trips, one each way, so it's worth getting the whole order together before the first.
