The interesting thing about Okotoks from our side of the bench is the age spread. Cimarron and Crystal Shores went up through the late 1990s and 2000s, and a lot of those homes are hitting the point where the original carpet and builder-grade laminate is being replaced — which is precisely when the transitions and stair noses become the sticking point. Newer areas like Drake Landing, D'Arcy Ranch and Wedderburn are wide-plank engineered and vinyl on open plans. And the older housing near the river and the downtown core includes homes old enough to have duct openings that predate any current standard. Okotoks is about forty-five minutes from our shop at 262 Poplar Hill Drive in northwest Calgary, up the 2A and around the city on Stoney Trail. You bring your flooring to us and collect the finished pieces from us — we're a workshop, not a delivery service. We're replacing carpet with hardwood. What accessories will we need?
Typically flush vents for every register in the new flooring, stair nosing if the stairs are included, and a reducer or T-molding at each doorway where the new floor meets something else. Send us a floor plan or a list of transitions and we'll tell you exactly what the job needs.
Our laminate is from about 2005. Can it still be matched?
If you have leftover boards, yes. If you don't, and the product is long discontinued, an exact match is genuinely hard — we'll tell you that honestly rather than sell you something close.
How do we get our flooring to you?
You bring it to the shop — 262 Poplar Hill Drive, northwest Calgary — and collect the finished pieces from there when they're ready. Most Okotoks customers tie the drop-off to a trip they were making into the city anyway. Call 403-862-4161 before you come so we know to expect you.
